Deciding where to stay Near Mount Rainier for your elopement can feel pretty daunting. The area is HUGE. You’re pouring a lot of intention and energy into this day, and where you stay can make or break the entire experience.
We’ve spent so much time in Rainier and have put this together to help you cut down on the decision fatigue and get a lay of the land. Planning your Mount Rainier elopement should feel fun, not overwhelming, so let us help with that.
Where you stay relies a lot on where in the park you’ll be exploring and the type of vibe you’re after. And the goal here isn’t just here’s some cute cabins (though we will be sharing some awesome stays), but more so about helping you create a full experience that goes beyond your elopement day.
H2: Picking your Mount Rainier Home Base
For most couples, we recommend staying in Ashford or Packwood. These are the cutest little mountain towns and each are unique in their own way.
Narrowing it down to these two towns is going to give you a balance of access to the mountain, places to eat, and that cabin in the woods vibe.

Ashford and Packwood each have their own charm and challenges and are the perfect fit for different couples.

Staying in Ashford
This is where we’d stay if we were prioritizing sunrise at Paradise or a winter adventure where we want the easiest possible park access. Ashford is as close as you can get to the Nisqually entrance and is a little closer if you’re coming in from SEATAC.
There are plenty of cute cabins to choose from and even “larger” stays like Paradise Village.
Think of Ashford as a gateway town. More geared toward visitors and park-focused amenities. But, with that comes more crowds, especially during peak season.
The Nisqually entrance can see some pretty intense lines in the summer months, so it’s not always our fave.
Ashford is perfect for couples who:
- Are sticking to the Paradise side.
- Are eloping in the winter (the Nisqually entrance stays open year-round).
- Want access to more amenities.
Our Fave Places in Ashford
While this is a small mountain town, Ashford has a lot to offer. There are some really charming (and delicious) places to grab a bite or some coffee!
- Copper Creek Inn has some of the most incredible blackberry pie. The rest of their menu is great, but the pie is top-tier and should be experienced.
- Paradise Village is one of our favorite places to eat in Ashford. The Ukrainian cuisine is out of this world. We still talk about the cheese pirogies and would gladly accept a sponsorship. You can also book a stay here!
- For something a little more on the casual side, Basecamp Bar and Grill is so yummy and just after you exit the park.
- Whittaker’s Cafe won’t show up on Google Maps, but this is our first pick for a good coffee before heading into the park. Route to Whittaker’s Bunkhouse and you’ll see it!
Ashford Elopement Activities
You’ll also find plenty of ways to slow down or add a little adventure before or after your elopement day.
For something really chill and relaxing, book a massage at Wellspring Spa. They also have some really cute cabins with private cedar hot tubs if you really want to unwind.
For something a little more adventurous, book a horseback ride along the river and explore.
Staying in Packwood:
Our fave place to stay for Rainier adventures!it isn’t as bustling as Ashford (which we like) and it feels very charming, small mountain town vibes. We love it here, especially in the fall when the colors start to come in.
Packwood is closest to the Stevens Canyon entrance on the southeast side. Truthfully, it isn’t that much longer of a drive to the Paradise area (maybe an extra 15 minutes) and the wait to get into the park is significantly shorter than the Nisqually entrance.
Packwood has some of the cutest cabins and some really quick access to some sweet swimming spots if you’re visiting in the summer months.
Packwood is perfect for couples who:
- Are chasing a cozy mountain town feel
- Love exploring the river and waterfalls
- Want to check out cute local spots
- Want to sip coffee in the square and see if they can spot the herd of local elk that roam around town.
Our Fave Places in Packwood
We love staying in Packwood so much and love sharing our favorite local businesses. Here are some that you should absolutely not skip while you’re here.
- Cruisers Pizza, but specifically for their breakfast (didn’t see that coming, huh?). Cruisers does a very down home, country style breakfast menu.
- Mountain Goat Coffee Co. GO EARLY. This place is super popular, but only because they make the best coffee and savory scones. Also their Chai is sooo good. It’s usually busy, so try and go first thing!
- Nachos! We’re from Texas, so our standards for Tex-Mex are pretty high. Nachos is sooo freaking good and tends to be open a little later making it ideal if you’re coming in from sunset adventures. Their margs are amazing, so don’t skip!
- Packwood Brewing is excellent for yummy, local brews and lighter pub food. They have a rotating menu and we’ve never been disappointed.
- Cliff Droppers doesn’t look like much from the outside, but their burgers hit the spot after a big hike.
Packwood Elopement Activities:

Where We’d Stay for a Mount Rainier Elopement
If we were planning our own Rainier elopement weekend, we’d probably choose Packwood. We love the slower pace, the mountain-town feel, and having somewhere cozy to come back to after exploring.
But, if your dream day involves sunrise at Paradise, a winter elopement, or a spa weekend, Ashford might actually be the better fit!
Areas We’d Personally Skip
If your priority is a cozy mountain getaway, we’d generally avoid staying in Enumclaw or Puyallup. They’re convenient if you’re driving in the night before, but they don’t give you that “wake up in the mountains” feeling that makes a Mount Rainier elopement so special.
You’ll also likely be adding in some unnecessary drive time, which can really put a damper on a 2 am start time.

Lafa A-Frame Cabin
Imagine starting your elopement day in the sauna, or soaking in the hot tub as the sun rises.
Finishing up your vows as the sun streams through the windows of this A-frame cabin.
Coming back from a day full adventures and sharing a first dance on the patio and then snuggling up by the fire to share s’mores.
This is the perfect stay if it’s just the two of you and you want to feel like your staying at a chic spa in the middle of the forest.
Iron & Vine Treehouse
Perfect for couples that want to infuse some unique whimsy in their elopement day.
In a forest full of a-frame and log cabins, this stay really stands out.
This is the perfect stay for couples that want a slow morning together. Sipping coffee and finishing up your vows in the suspended net in the loft, playing a card game by the fire place, helping each other finish getting ready on the balcony while the sun streams through the trees.
This feels perfect place to stay for your Mount Rainier elopement for a fall elopement in Rainier where you want to prioritize a slow space and cozy vibes.
Mid Century Modern Cabin for Two
If there’s a spiral staircase, we’re automatically gonna be stoked. This cozy frame feels so nestled in the forest and PERFECT for couples that want a cozy homebase to come back and celebrate at.
Sharing a first dance under the point of the a-frame with the patio lights, cozying up in the hot tub to star gaze, or sharing a slice of wedding cake in front of a smokeless fire pit (one of our fave features)
Ok, we’re also picturing a very cute getting ready moment with the split level loft and the spiral staircase.
Entire Cabin to Celebrate with your Crew
If you’re bringing guest with you, this would be such a perfect spot to gather and celebrate after a ceremony and exploring in the park!
We love this for you because of the outdoor space that is perfect for celebrating on warm summer nights. at the fire pit
A massive bonus is that this is on 3 acres, so you’ll have more privacy than a lot of other stays in the Ashford area.
You could also start your morning in the sauna or hot tub, watching the sunrise as you *chill*.
Wrap up the evening by the fire pit, under the string lights celebrating with your crew before ending with another dip in the hot tub (obviously).
Our Fave Stays for Your Mount Rainier Elopement in Packwood
Coal Creek A-frame (Our fave pick)
This is our fave stay for couples, especially if you’re eloping in Rainier at the last minute. This A-Frame is right on the river and you’ll have gorgeous green mountains to gaze out at.
If you’re eloping in Mount Rainier, you need a special use permit to exchange vows in the park. Typically you want to give yourself at least 6 weeks to get this approved.
For couples eloping in a shorter time frame, having a backup location in case your permit isn’t approved is ideal. This stay gives you both a gorgeous cabin AND a stunning ceremony spot!
The windows are also gorgeous, and we’re obviously obsessed with the cedar hot tub that you’ll need to take full advantage of.
Hire a private chef and share dinner on the patio as the air turns chilly, then snuggle up around the fire pit to star gaze.
Rainier Forest Cabin that’s perfect for a group
Feels very PNW elevated cabin vibes, cozy, but also perfect for celebrating with a group. The backyard is perfect for a post ceremony celebration.
Share a meal created by a private chef at the table, cut your cake by the fire pit, share a first dance under the string lights, and stargaze in the hot tub.
Also, we don’t want to tell you what to do, but we feel very strongly that you should start your day with a sauna sesh 🙂
This really feels like the perfect stay if you’re wanting to balance that cozy, just us feeling and celebrating with your loved ones.
The Vibiest Lil A-Frame
This feels like a chic mid-century modern aesthetic meets summer camp and is perfect for a winter elopement, complete with a ski-cache and a hot tub to soak in after a day in the snow.
It’s easy to imagine so many snuggles happening in front of the fireplace as light streams through the wall of windows.
Move to the kitchen and make a yummy breakfast together before getting ready. Share a first look, here at the forest surrounding your cabin, before heading to the park.
After exploring and exchanging vows, come back and share a meal out on the deck as the stars start to come out. Wind down in the hot tub, or cozy up at the fire-pit.
